Cyberinfrastructure in Science

Cyberinfrastructure is becoming a unifying
concept for collaborative, technology-enhanced science. This will be a virtual seminar taught
simultaneously at five institutions, introducing science students to concepts
in cyberinfrastructure. The seminar will
be led by a multidisciplinary group of scientists and computer scientists who
are involved in cyberinfrastructure efforts in projects such as NEON, GEON,
SEEK, LEAD and others. The seminar will
emphasize developments in earth, environment, and ecology-related science. Each week will introduce a CI topic with a
basic explanation of relevant concepts, examples of usage in science
applications, and/or demonstrations of existing or current development efforts. The course assumes no prior knowledge of
computer science, informatics, or computational science, and majors from any
science discipline may take the class.
